The Franklin Institute

September 23, 2011

A dear old friend treated us to a day at the Franklin Institute featuring....the Mummy Exhibit!

"Mummies of the World, the largest exhibition of mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, presents a never-before-seen collection of naturally and intentionally preserved mummies.  This compelling collection, presented with reverence and dignity, includes ancient mummies and important artifacts from Asia, Oceania, South America, Europe, as well as ancient Egypt, dating as far back as 6,500 years.

Embark on a journey into the extraordinary world of mummies and mummification.  Through modern science, engaging interactives and multi-media exhibits, the exhibition reveals how the scientific study of mummies provides a window into the lives of ancient people from every region of the world, offering unprecedented insights into past cultures and civilization."

Out of respect for the dead, cameras were not allowed in the actual exhibit. I found that I was actually able to appreciate the exhibit more without continually looking for "the perfect shot."
I wish I could visit again, in the evening, with a few close friends a few bottles of good wine - such a mesmerizing experience...one that leads to a lot of inner reflection.

For now, some memories of what else The Franklin Institute had to offer...

Flight Simulator:

(Poor little girlies both exited the flight simulator in tears..)

Samual sat in this plane for about five minutes until I suggested we move on to something else. He said "Well, when it is going to take off??" After I told him that it wasn't going anywhere, he said "Well, that's stupid."

This expression pretty much sums up Sophie's attitude for the day:

Pulling Their Own Weight:

Dominoes!:

I really need to find some dominoes for these kids, preferably big ones like these that the baby can't force into his mouth.... They could have stayed here for hours.
