Emu Egg

Imagine if we had an egg hunt with emu eggs? We'd have to get pretty creative with hiding places with eggs this size! An emu egg contains the equivalent of about twelve chicken eggs. It's also a lot of work blowing all of that egg out. The shell is thick and sturdy (it has to be if you think about how far it drops from an emu!) It's difficult to catch on camera how iridescent the shell is. It is said that each emu makes a unique pattern on its eggs and the farmer can identify which emu laid which egg by the pattern on the shell.
